Ingredients:
1 Cup toor dal
3 Cups chopped cabbage
1/2 Medium sized chopped onion
3 Green chillies slit
1 Tomato chopped
Small lemon sized tamarind
3-4 Garlic cloves slightly crushed
Few curry leaves
1 tsp chana dal
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
2 Dry red chillies
1 tsp red chilli pwd (adjust)
1/4 tsp turmeric pwd
Salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
2 1/2 Cups of water
Process:
- Wash the toor dal, drain the water and keep it aside.
- Into a pressure cooker take the washed toor dal, chopped cabbage, onion, tomatoes, slit green chillies, tamarind along with 2 and half cups of water.
- Pressure cook this for 3-4 whistles.
- Once the pressure is off open the cooker and discard the tamarind.
- Into a cooking pan take 2 tbsp of oil and once it is hot add the chana dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dry red chilly, crushed garlic cloves, curry leaves and fry for a minute.
- Then add the cooked dal, red chilli pwd, salt, turmeric.
- Now add some water depending on how thin you want your dal.
- Cover and cook for 5 mins on medium flame.
- After 5 mins check for the consistency of the dal, adjust the seasoning.
- Switch off the flame and serve hot with rice or roti.
